Interim President and Chief Operating Officer, Kent Hospital
Sherry Nelson, JD, MS, RN, has assumed the daily activities of president of Kent Hospital. Her appointment formalizes this leadership role while ensuring oversight of the duties required of the position, as well as some of the external obligations, such as the Kent representative on the Hospital Association of Rhode Island Board. During her short time at Kent, Sherry has worked diligently to build relationships among staff as well as lead our focus on clinical and operational excellence.
Sherry is an experienced leader with a strong foundation in operational and clinical success. She is known for her ability to engage nurses and physicians while implementing innovative solutions for the evolving health care landscape. Sherry will provide day-to-day support for hospital operations while working closely with members of the hospital leadership team.
Sherry’s extensive experience includes her past role as vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Mercy Health in Springfield, OH. Prior to that, she served in the same role at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis, MO; Sun Coast Hospital, Largo, FL; and Gateway Regional in Granite City, IL. She received her JD from the University of Montana School of Law; MS in health administration from St. Frances University in Illinois and her BSN from the University of Arizona College of Nursing.
