Job Description
The registered nurse is responsible for the initial and on-going assessment of patients. The RN develops, implements and evaluates a plan of nursing care for assigned patients and families to address safety, educate patient/family, and plan discharge. The RN collaborates closely with the physicians to assess risks, monitor patient status, and assist with any procedures as required. Provision of care for assigned patients and families includes direct patient care as well as accountability for appropriateness of nursing care delivered by licensed practical nurses (LPN) and certified nursing assistants (CNA). The RN documents all aspects of patient care and the patient's response to care according to established policies and procedures and communicates in a professional manner, providing information to physicians, other staff, and patients/families as appropriate.  Performs related duties as required.
Licensure
RN RI
Required Education
BSN (American Heart Association) required for external candidates. Graduate of NLN accredited school of nursing required. Current RI RN license required. Previous nursing experience within the specialty of med-surg or critical care experience required. Knowledge of current nursing practices, knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and psychosocial sciences related to various ages, skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making, skills in planning, organizing, and priority setting, ability to implement all components of the nursing process, ability to identify learning needs and teach patients and families, ability to communicate, collaborate, and delegate effectively. Self-motivation, commitment to continuing education and self-improvement, professional accountability.
